A Journey of Learning to See.
My path has been one of learning to see, studying the tangible physical world and the ephemeral world of the hidden psyche.
I began my formal art education at the prestigious Pratt Institute in New York City, where I undertook an in-depth study of figurative arts. This rigorous training allowed me to develop a keen understanding of the human form and the complexities of capturing the essence of human experience in my work. There, I assisted in human dissection at Columbia Medical School, studying anatomy to bring knowledge to my art. Through drawing, I learned to see and became sensitive to the nuances of the physical form, but this proficiency was only of the physical world.
My studies continued. For 25 years, I worked in the film industry, creating visual effects and animation for iconic films such as Harry Potter, Terminator 3, and The Jungle Book. I aspired to master the art of visual storytelling, blending technology and creativity to bring fantastical worlds to life.
My studies continued. Venturing into the realm of technology, I founded a company specializing in groundbreaking geospatial acquisition software, based in Los Angeles and Moscow. As drawing is the process of learning to see, computer vision is teaching a machine to see. My understanding of perception naturally led me to develop machines that can perceive the world. This endeavor broadened my mind and facilitated the innovation of cutting-edge computer vision software, pushing the boundaries of what is possible.
My studies continued. My work in virtual reality for the automotive industry and human-machine interfaces for autonomous vehicles in Tokyo further expanded my understanding, allowing me to integrate art and science seamlessly. These experiences enriched my understanding of the intricate relationship between humans and technology, facilitating more than the sum of each.
Throughout my diverse career, I have always perceived the world through the lens of an artist. This myriad of worldly experiences, from blissful victories to agonizing losses, has given me a sensitivity to the human condition not previously possessed. I now endeavor to learn to see the inner world, the commonalities of human experience, and bring it back to the light in my art.
Drawing is fundamentally the process of learning to see. However, it has taken a lifetime to truly see deeper and feel what cannot be seen with eyes alone, what is inside each person who is having their own unique human experience.
In my art, I aspire to capture the essence of the human spirit, illustrating the power to endure and find light in the darkest moments. Each piece is a celebration of our inner strength and a reminder that within every shadow lies the potential for light.
Join me in celebrating the resilience of the human spirit. I ask you to let my art inspire you to embrace your own journey, find hope in the face of adversity, and become an illuminated version of yourself.
